Lexan

Lexan is the Trade name of General Electric Plastics and covers various grades of Polycarbonate sheet.

General specifications

Polycarbonate sheets offer a unique combination of exceptional properties: impact resistance, transparency, lightness, flexibility, heat resistance, fire resistance, long life and safety.

Polycarbonate sheet is as transparent as glass, weighs less than half as much and is 250 times more impact resistant, making it virtually unbreakable. It also provides excellent soundproofing properties and better thermal insulation than glass.

There are three qualities of extruded polycarbonate sheet:.
Grade : standard
Grade : UV treated on both surfaces - For outside use.
Grade : anti-abrasion treated on 2 surfaces- improved scratch resistance

Its exceptional impact resistance means it can be used as security glass in high-risk environments, where glass would not last long and could be dangerous:
Buildings such as hospitals and schools, sports and leisure facilities, such as swimming pools, ice-hockey rinks, etc ...

Polycarbonate's fire resistance and suitability for cold moulding, as well as its lightness, enable it to be used in many architectural applications such as roofs, cupolas and glazed canopies.

Polycarbonate sheets are also used in many other fields requiring high impact resistance: visors and protective screens, safety hoods for machinery, protective panels, etc ...
